Acrylic on wood, 20x30, handmade aspen floater frame
On just about every river trip I’ve been on, someone at some point points out a face in the canyon walls (with and without the help of ‘scenery enhancers’ ;) There are a lot of Indian chiefs, gorillas, and of course, phallic spires. Perhaps this is due to our human tendency toward pattern recognition, a la Rorschach. However, I like to think the faces are our ancestors blessing our safe passage, watching and chuckling as we scout the puny rapids, as if we had any control over our fate.
